Ainslie Wills Announces ‘Drive’ Single Launches

After spending most of 2014 locked away collaborating and writing new material for the follow-up to her critically acclaimed Australian Music Prize and Melbourne Music Prize nominated debut LP ‘You Go Your Way’, Melbourne melodist Ainslie Wills with long time collaborator and guitarist Lawrence Folvig are ready to reveal Drive, the first taste of the new material. The pair will perform in Melbourne and Sydney during February and March.

Lured in by the tropical humidity and laid back vibes of Brisbane, the scene was perfectly set for the recording of Drive , produced by Matt Redlich (Holy Holy, Trouble With Templeton, Emma Louise) over two days at Redlich’s studio –

Grandma’s Place.

Wills and Folvig never contemplated travelling north to Brisbane to record until

they met Redlich. They quickly realised all three shared a very similar sense of humour, but more importantly – a musical palette, ranging from Chopin through to Phil Collins to Q-tip and beyond.

A soundtrack to a night time drive, the song centres itself around finding clarity of one’s own mind and comes together in a band driven fury with Wills’ vocal beaming front and centre.

Wills is set to perform a string of shows with Big Scary frontman Tom Iansek’s side project #1 Dads, before her and cohort Folvig celebrate the release of ‘Drive’ by playing headline shows at Melbourne’s Toff in Town on February 26th and the Newtown Social Club on March 14th.
