NEW YEARS DAY

FREMANTLE ARTS CENTRE
 - 1 FINNERTY ST. FREMANTLE. 5-10pm
Ring in the new year with a quality line up of soul-soothing beats from the leaders of blues infused dub, New Zealand’s Fat Freddy’ Drop. Fresh from releasing their anticipated sophomore album ‘Big BW’ the powerhouse eight piece bring their live show back to Australia for the first time since November 07 to present the new material and play their most loved tunes like ‘Hope’, ‘Cay’s Cray’s’, ‘Roady’ and ‘Wandering Eye.’

No stranger to Australia, DJ Vadim has toured the country several times as either club DJ, exceptional turntablist, member of One Self or a combination of the three! His most recent album ‘The Sound Catcher’ (BBE) was a slight departure from his unique sparse brand of hip-hop, offering colourful reggae tones and as always a host of brilliant collaborators. He is joined on stage by One Self MC and poet Yarah Bravo.

WA’s favourite dub/reggae band - Sunshine Brothers - who released their second album "GREENPOINT" (recorded at Daptone Studios Brooklyn) to great acclaim earlier this year add the local flavour to this world class bill.

Rounding off the bill is fellow Kiwi Ladi , joining the cast off the back of a stellar 2008, herself. After collaborations with Swedish beat-don Freddie Cruger and a rip-roaring single in ‘Go Get It’ with Sepalot for Compost, Ladi 6 is just about ready to unleash her debut solo effort. Coming strong with a wealth of vocal talent, be it singing or rapping, Ladi 6 is the bright future of nu soul in the southern hemisphere, that is already turning heads worldwide.

Do not miss this incredible start to the new year. Begin your 2009 the right way and join us for an awesome array of the world’s best talent.

Dam Funk - Toeachizown (Stones Throw)

You can catch Dam Funk’s Toeachizown in it’s entirety in stores now. My biggest criticism of this artist is his lack of variation in the beats department but I am dead keen to hear how...
