JOE DUKIE & DJ FITCHIE - these two talents are the alter egos of Wellington's
DJ Mu and vocalist Dallas Tamaira, gaining momentum currently with their big
band Fat Freddys Drop - possibly the hottest band on the planet right now,
selling out shows wherever they play. When they get together to DJ and
sing/MC, expect the amazing sounds you know, just beefed up twenty notches
(could that be possible???) still laced with their trademark skanking rhythms
and honeyed beats. And to see Dallas sing Midnight Marauders with Mu on the
cut is breathtaking to say the least..
The band OPENSOULS are NZ's leading exponent of urban soul music. Together
since 2002, they are a collective of some of the hottest young musicians in
Auckland, all sharing a common background in soul and jazz music. With
musicians who have worked with such artists as Mark De Clive Lowe, Tha'
Feelstyle, Solaa, and many more; think a mix of the Quantic Soul Orchestra,
Alice Russell, Fat Freddy's Drop and De La Soul, salted with that special
fatness only a true love of music can muster. With an album set to drop in
April that is nothing short of genius, this band is the one to watch..
Originator and premiere NZ hip hop star KING KAPISI comes to represent his
true island-style of up-front rhymes and big booming beats, all laced with
that sweet funked up NZ sound. His new album will hit the streets in May, so
expect classic tracks mixed with brand new tunes in a live set that's been
slaying crowds from the Marlborough Sounds to Melbourne..
THE TURNAROUND DJS (Manuel Bundy, Submariner and Cian) have the hottest club
night in Auckland, enjoying an unparalleled reputation for partying til' the
break of dawn. This trio need to be seen (or heard?) to be believed with their
no prisoners brand of swamp funk, hip hop, rare grooves, broken beat'n'bass
and boozy breaks, so expect your body to swerve..
