Sharon Jones & The Dap Kings - Sydney 08

Mr Choc (Beat Junkies), Meem, Simon Caldwell
March 2008
Enmore Theatre (Sydney)

Niche Productions are proud to announce the return of powerhouse soul-diva, Sharon Jones and her thumping and inimitable band, The Dap-Kings. With an organic and vibrant sound reminiscent of vintage records of yesteryear, their funk soul groove is bringing the essence of the 60’s Stax and Motown vibes to hungry audiences worldwide.

Their relentless touring has solidified Sharon’s reputation as “Soul Sister #1” and placed the tight sound of the Dap-Kings in high demand for music fans and tastemakers alike. When they haven’t been exposing world audiences to their brand of groove, Sharon Jones and The Dap-Kings have been biding their time and talents with high-calibre artists, thrusting them into well-deserved acclaim and exposing them to a wider fan base. Sharon recently performed with Lou Reed on his revival tour of his seminal record, Berlin, as well as lending her vocal talents to Rufus Wainwright, They Might Be Giants and film projects amongst others.

The 9-piece Dap-Kings have also been busy garnering attention. Their partnership with producer Mark Ronson saw them on half of Amy Winehouse’s breakout album, Back to Black and consequently as her touring band.  Their third studio album, 100 Days, 100 Nights, released this year, has already been touted as their best yet, but can still hardly compare to the power and raw soul-stirring energy that Sharon and her Dap-Kings bring to their blistering live performances. With the vitality and air-tight musicianship of the Dap-Kings and the hip-grinding vocal stylings of the diva Sharon, performances promise raw fire and fury, brutal soul and booty-shaking, a pure and explosive soul-funk workout that is bound to have audiences in rapturous ovation.
