New Zealand soul favourites Fat Freddy’s Drop will make the jump across the Tasman in October for shows at The Palace in Melbourne on Friday 13th and The Forum in Sydney on Sunday 15th.

The band have just completed a two month European tour spanning 19 dates across 8 countries that included performances at the Sonar Festival in Spain, Roskilde in Denmark, the Isle of Wight Festival and a sold out show at the 5500 capacity Brixton Academy in London.

Now back at home the boys are laying low and shifting their focus back to their beachside studio as they work on their second album. Their watershed debut Based On A True Story is now at seven times platinum sales in New Zealand, reaching over 100,000 album sales and, one year on from its release, the album has spent 42 out of 52 weeks in the Top Ten NZ Album charts, with 11 of those at #1 (and also broke Crowded House’s record for most weeks at #1 on the album charts).

But as anyone who has seen the band in person knows, Fat Freddy’s Drop are first and foremost a live band and, it is on the stage that they truly shine. As the man responsible for the beats DJ Fitchie says “What’s great about live performance is that it belongs to those in the audience on that night, it’s a one off experience”.

The band’s return to the studio has seen them turn down many of this season’s summer festivals as they get stuck into recording the new album – so this is a good chance to see them in action as they road test new material!

Both of the last Fat Freddy’s Drop Australian tours sold out a month before the gigs.
