Niche Productions is proud to present the return of Mayer Hawthorne & The County to our fair shores in February 2011, bringing with them some fresh material from their upcoming album. Making their Australian debut at the beginning of 2010, Mayer Hawthorne & The Country wowed audiences and made young ladies swoon all over the country.

Growing up in Ann Arbor, Michigan – just outside of Detroit, Mayer has been immersed in music for as long as he can remember. With fond memories of listening to jazz records with his father in the car, Mayer was signed to Stones Throw by head honcho Peanut Butter Wolf after hearing only a few tracks – all of which he thought were covers. “He showed me two songs and I didn’t understand what I was listening to,” Wolf recalls. “I asked him if they were old songs that he did re-edits of – I couldn’t believe they were new songs and that he played all the instruments.”

With his debut album dropping last year and lead single ‘Just Ain’t Gonna Work Out’ rippling around the world – catching attention from the likes of Gilles Peterson and Mark Ronson – Mayer Hawthorne & the County have kept themselves busy, touring extensively throughout the US, Europe and Japan.

A favourite at 2010’s Days Like This! festival, Niche Productions has been inundated with requests to bring this new school soul sensation back to Australia, so audiences can expect another round of awe-inspiring live performances.
