Birthed through the ever-changing ecosystem of ballroom, ATARANGI draws heavy influence from the queer underground scene in Aotearoa by way of New York City to inform a sound touched by many, perfected by few. They possess an unparalleled sonic knowledge that transcends multiple, eclectic genres. They bend the fabric from which sonic connection is formed; melting sounds from techno to jersey club, ballroom, and fast-paced, percussive hard drum in perfect, chaotic harmony. Hailed as a master of emergence, their high-energy, reactive, never-the-same sets have made them nothing short of a mainstay in the club circuit across the Pacific.

As well as being a staple in the ballroom community in Aotearoa, they also help run, facilitate, and DJ the iconic Tāmaki Makaurau based queer club night NYMPHO – dedicating their collective practice to sexual liberation and gender euphoria on and off the dance floor.

Having shared the stage with the likes of LSDXOXO, Overmono, KI/KI, HorsegiirL and TAAHLIAH, they’ve made unforgettable appearances on the shores of Aotearoa at 121 and Beacon Festival, and overseas, notably LE FAG and UMAMI in Naarm/Melbourne, and VIVID Festival at the Sydney Opera House for House of Mince. Mix releases on New York City based radio show FEMMETHUG, as well as Aotearoa’s coveted Friendly Potential Radio have propelled ATARANGI into a lane of their own.

With a recent New Zealand tour with club icon Jyoty under their belt, as well as appearances at Splore and Laneway Festival, ATARANGI shows no sign of slowing down on the road to sonic domination.
