Future Jr. is the sonic tapestry forged by new Australian artist, Matthew Nainby. Influenced by the likes of Toro y Moi, Lorde and Day Wave, Nainby began his alchemy in the depths of his parents house, with guitar in hand crouched over the glow of his synth collection. Armed with a disarming lyricism and a love for immersive musical textures, he has bound together a collection of intriguing electro-pop offerings.
In late 2016 he hit the bustle of the Los Angeles songwriting scene, where he dove head first into a number of all-consuming mind melds with noted writers and producers. The result, his debut EP ‘Vacancy’ released March 2018.
‘Vacancy’ has since clocked up over 3 million streams globally across the singles Tell Me That I’m Wrong, Sentimental Trick, Glass Words and Suburbia Blue alongside bonus EP tracks Lonely For You and How To Get A Job.
Spotify support via ‘New Music Friday’ has come repeatedly throughout the campaign including the US, UK, France, Germany, Australia, New Zealand, Canada, South Africa, Turkey, Denmark & Switzerland. Meanwhile at Apple Music, Future Jr has proven to be a repeat favourite with Zane Lowe at Beats 1, among multiple ‘Best Of The Week’ and ‘A-List’ placements.
At media, Future Jr. has been championed by Complex, Beat, Pile Rats, The Line Of Best Fit, The 405 and Clash Magazine. At home, he recently wrapped up a national co-headline Rare Finds tour with Moza, and has been championed by triple j Unearthed.
Having inked a deal with Kobalt (UK) in May 2018 Nainby is set up for a busy next phase. A collaboration with Columbia recording artist, ‘ayokay’ dropped late June and ‘Changing’ was released July 20 racking up 100k+ streams on it’s first weekend.
