Media Puzzle
Named after the Melbourne Cup-winning racehorse, media puzzle is the solo recording project of Lismore-based artist and musician Tom Peter. Australian egg punk meets pop sensibilities. Jittered guitars and lofi fuzzed out vocals. 2 minute songs that linger for a lifetime. media puzzle are fast becoming one of the most exciting musical exports.
Over the past three years, media puzzle has released three scuzzy post-punk albums and two blisteringly short, high-energy EPs. Residing somewhere between Suicide’s dark minimalism and Uranium Club’s eccentric edge, the project’s last two releases earned an exclusive vinyl feature at Rough Trade and a strong 7.6 rating from Pitchfork, which praised its “uncanny creativity that egg-punk weirdos love to tout.”
Having carved out a space between drum machine-driven egg-punk and fuzzy scuzz-pop, the newest record marks a departure from previous efforts and hints at a maturing sound.
After a year of DIY recording and touring, opening for Regurgitator and being booked around Australia, media puzzle returned with a fourth (and still somewhat speedy) album, New Racehorse. Moving beyond the drum machine-heavy egg-punk approach of earlier releases, this record is their most collaborative yet, blending oddball pop and garage punk.
“New Racehorse” was released via Impressed Recordings on 17th April 2026.
