Ella Thompson Signs With Niche

As one of the singers in esteemed soul outfit The Bamboos, Ella Thompson’s enigmatic voice is no stranger to the airwaves

Now the progressive young singer joins Niche Productions as the boutique booking and touring agency’s latest signing.

From an early age the great jazz and blues musicians such as Muddy Waters, Etta James and Nina Simone inspired Ella Thompson.

At just sixteen she went on her first national tour with Renee Geyer and Vika and Linda, the “Voice Tour”, while studying music at The Victorian College of the Arts Secondary School. A support spot for Paul Kelly followed.

Ella then went on to start her own group AXOLOTL in 2011, experimenting with ambient electronics, lush cinematic textures and lyrical songwriting driven by new wave, art-rock energy, before she began performing as a permanent member of Melbourne collective The Bamboos.

Her solo material, co-produced with Aria award-winning John Castle, sees her drawing on influences such as Hitchcock, Brian Eno, St Vincet, Melody’s Echo Chamber, Grimes, Shangri-las and Yayoi Kusama, and blends new psychedelia, analog electronica and dream pop to create a rich sound full of fluid melodies, ambient textures and raw performance energy.

With her debut solo album on the way in 2014, she’s set to solidify her status as one of Australia’s most exciting up-coming talents.
